I love to make things and create. I love to make  things cozy and then sit back with the perfect cup of tea and enjoy it for the few moments before my adorable children wreck the place again. I am thankful for my little family and all of its chaos, most days it is a good kind of crazy. Life continues to get busy and it is always a balancing act to discern what things you need to make space for in your life and what things may need a break.

While starting Mudpies and Melodies with Shaunna has been a great creative outlet, I have decided to return to my little ‘ol blog.  This will still allow me to share my creative exploits but will also enable me to post more sporadically when the mood hits. I am looking forward to less screen time and more time to create things, play with my crazy family and drink tea. Please feel free to stop by and say hello at Under the Pine Tree if you would like.

Cold Weather Car Seat Safety

The leaves are starting to fall and the air is getting cooler. Time to bring out the toasty winter coats and mittens. Before you bundle up your precious cargo for a drive, we have a few helpful tips from Courtney Comeau, who is a Children’s Restraint System Technician. As a newly certified CRST, I learn a lot from her each time we do a roadside check with our local RCMP and can honestly say her passion is contagious! Check out her helpful tips for staying snug and safe this winter…

A Little Bit of Halloween

While my pinterest board and craft room are filled with ideas, reality appears in the form of an adorable one year old who is not really into sleeping. Combine that with my innate desire to attempt to be organized and have a clean house and chaos ensues. For example, on Tuesday at 12:25pm as Lady V. was putting on her shoes to go to preschool it dawned on me that it was her Halloween party day. Oops. Preschool starts at 1pm, and is a 15 minutes drive away…..and I was still in my PJs. True Story. Continue reading

Read to Me Monday

With blustery fall winds covering my lawn with fun piles of leaves (until we have to rake) and Halloween just a few nights away, I thought this book would make a great Read to Me Monday selection. Winnie Flies Again written by Valerie Thomas and Korky Paul is a funny little story with eye-catching artwork filled with amusing details.  Continue reading

Felted Sweater Fall Wreath

I posted this morning about how I used a felted sweater that I found at a thrift store to make this adorable headband for Lady V. The rest of that sweater became a fall wreath for my front door. I really like the rustic look of the grapevine wreath, twine and wool. It definitely perks up our entry way and makes things look all cozy & fall-like! It is an easy project and very budget friendly if you use thrifted wool sweaters.

Birthday Banner Tutorial

I love parties and I love finding ways to decorate that can be re-used, re-cycled or re-purposed in some way. The most recent birthday in our home was no exception. We spent a few hours (thanks Mom!) getting things ready for Mr. Man’s big day and I was really happy with how his birthday banner turned out. After his party I hung it above his crib, sort of a mobile I suppose. Read on to see how you can make your own birthday banner….
